2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Mixed Feedback

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated staff about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the requirement for a clearer vision.

The president expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

Trend of Key Hires

The news echoes a comparable action taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock development group.

Below is the entire content from the president's announcement:

Dear Team—

I know you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last fall’s the game playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the need for a sharper vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to heart and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our audience.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of the team. After a period of conversations, he officially joins us on next week.

Ben’s leadership and experience in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having spent the recent years producing and managing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in welcoming Ben soon. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the evolution of the game in the weeks to come.

The President

Background of the Incoming Leader

The appointee presently holds the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had periods at other industry leaders.

Game Information and Vision

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year alongside a early access event. Then, the developers presented the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description states. "Face the rivals with unique powers, risks, and challenges that evolve every session. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively aim high, put it on the line, and trust your group can achieve the highest spot? The choice is yours."

Project Ethos lacks an announced launch window or supported systems, but fans can look forward to further news as development continues.
