Sam Fender has given the full amount of his £25k honor winnings to the MVT, which functions to save the UK's independent concert spaces.

Fender was given the prize on mid-October as his third album People Watching was declared the top album of the last 12 months.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function local spots played in his early career.

"I couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I did around the region, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these venues have permanently closed – approximately 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

He also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to assist 38 small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds supported venues that were confronting possible closure due to issues caused by water damage, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Other venues received monetary aid in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that helped musicians and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from performances in large arenas supports the local stages, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

The musician is not the first artist to give his honor prize money to charitable organizations.

In Pulp earned the prize in the year 1996 for their release their work, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the group would donate their winnings to the organization War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer the artist divided her prize across several charities, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they required new equipment," the artist explained to a publication.

Previously, the band contributed their funds to the local youth club that nurtured their group, alongside other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients M People donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the disease.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," said vocalist the singer. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our victory touched the lives of others."

Recently, the trust shared it had rescued a couple of small stages in that region, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in the city and the other in the city were acquired under the Own Our Venues program, which is supported by Arts Council England and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the buildings.
